Government officials feel more regulation is necessary because they are unable to track the number of home-schooled children, and they fear that many are being neglected or mistreated. Children who are home-schooled are roughly twice as likely to be abused by their parents, according to Graham Badman, author of the government report.Badman's report came from the United Kingdom. But even President Obama appears to believe that the schools are a better place to keep kids safe,
"The president, who has a sixth-grader and a third-grader, wants schools to add time to classes, to stay open late and to let kids in on weekends so they have a safe place to go."But the escalating violence in the Chicago Public Schools, where Derrion Alber was beaten to death by a mob, demonstrate that the schools and after-school community centers are not the safe haven that Obama wants us to believe,
Derrion Alber was going home where he belongs and where a lot of other kids would rather stay because they don't feel safe in the schools. You can bet that if this young man had been beaten by a mob of homeschoolers they'd already have "emergency legislation" introduced in Congress requiring all homeschooling to cease and ordering all kids back into the schools to keep them safe.
Toya Truitt, who has two sons at Fenger, said tensions between kids living in the Altgeld Gardens housing project and those living near the school have been on the rise.
"A lot of kids don't want to come back" to school, she said. "This boy [Derrion] was innocent. He was a kid going home."
Isn't it time we start regulating government officials who think everyone else is the problem and only they can provide a solution? Regrettably, we have people who believe government is their savior and pray to Obama for deliverance...
God, whose name is not Obama, help us all.
Lord hear our prayer.
