I've been busy working on a few topics related to homeschooling that are being published in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. The spring issue has the first in a series of articles Homeschool Watch. My article titled Homeschooling Under Fire discusses parental neglect and the pressure government officials are under to increase regulation on all homeschoolers in order to detect potential abuse and in the process erode our freedom. A second article, due out in mid-summer, examines more closely the issue of educational neglect and how our rights as parents are being undermined by the state in order to "protect the children."
With the recent court decision in California and attempts to change homeschooling laws in several states, it is more important than ever for homeschoolers to understand our natural and fundamental right to direct the care and education of our children; and with our understanding it is imperative that we have the ability to articulate these rights with clarity and conviction.
As parents, we can't afford to just sit back and say, "whatever" any longer.
